There are moments every tradie knows.
  1. You're about to step onto a new site. The foreman wants proof of cover before you're allowed past the gate. You're standing in the car park, scrolling back through weeks of emails trying to find a certificate that may or may not open on your phone.
  2. You're putting together a quote for a commercial job. The builder's scope says you need to attach proof of public liability. You've got the quote ready, but you're now hunting down your insurer's contact details to request a certificate — which takes a day to arrive, by which time your quote is already late.
  3. You're mid-job and your employee knocks over something expensive. Before you say anything to the client, you want to quickly check: is my cover current? What's my excess? You have no idea where to find that information without calling your broker.
  4. You get a notification that your next premium payment is due — and you've just cancelled the card it was set to charge. You need to update your payment details before the policy lapses. That normally means logging into a portal you can't remember the password for, or waiting on hold.
VIZ Insurance has built a fix for all of that.

Australia's First Digital Wallet Card for Tradies Insurance

In December 2025, VIZ launched the VIZ Tradie Pass — a digital insurance card that lives directly in a tradie's Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, right alongside their credit cards, boarding passes, and loyalty cards.

When someone asks for proof of insurance, the tradie opens their phone and shows the card. No delays. The tradie can also quickly share the certificate with a few clicks.

But it's more than a proof-of-coverage tool. The pass displays current policy details — coverage status, policy type, excess — so a tradie can check their own cover on the spot if something goes wrong on site. And if they need to update their payment details, they can tap through directly from the card and do it themselves, right there and then, without calling anyone.

It's a small change in format with a meaningful impact on how tradies actually manage their insurance day to day.

"Easy and simple"

Chris, a carpenter from Perth, put it simply: "Easy, simple and straight forward, the Tradie Pass in my digital wallet is a great idea, easy and accessible. Thanks to the Team".

For clients who've been burned by uninsured contractors — or who simply want assurance before handing over the keys to their home — that 5-second check matters. For the tradie, it removes a persistent friction point that can lose a job before it starts.

The Numbers Behind the Launch

VIZ didn't need a big campaign to prove demand. In December 2025 they started emailing their clients about the feature. More than 1,300 tradies signed up within hours. One email. No hard sell.

That kind of uptake from a cold announcement suggests the product was solving a real, felt problem — a problem the industry had learned to live with because they had no alternative.

What Comes Next

Having validated the concept with early adopters, VIZ is now taking the feature to scale. Starting in July 2026, the company will run a campaign across its client base with a target of 50% adoption by December 2026.

If they get there, it means the majority of VIZ-insured tradies will be carrying their proof of coverage in their pocket, ready to show at any moment — no admin, no delay, no excuses.

A Bigger Shift in How Insurance Works

The VIZ Tradie Pass is a product feature, but it points to something broader: insurance increasingly needs to show up where people actually are, not just in inboxes and filing cabinets.

For the trades industry — which runs on trust, referrals, and showing up ready to work — being able to instantly prove your credentials is a competitive advantage. The insurance providers who make that easy are the ones who'll win loyalty from a generation of tradies who expect their tools to work like their phone does.
